EEIG COMMENTS ON REPORTS OF LAUNCH OF NEW NATIONWIDE INSULATION SCHEME

The Energy Efficiency Infrastructure Group (EEIG) welcomes media reports that the new nationwide insulation scheme, ECO Plus, will soon be launched – offering crucial support for households to make permanent savings on their energy bills as gas prices remain sky-high.

Energy efficiency is a money saving investment for government – the more we invest, the more we save. Whilst the £1 billion pot is timely, the EEIG has previously called for £3bn for the scheme over three years – in line with the supply chains’ ability to deliver.

Sarah Kostense-Winterton, chairman of the EEIG, comments “Whilst we await further clarification from the government on the figures reported in the Times today, this 1 billion commitment should be focused at those at risk of falling into fuel poverty and the scheme opened up to more delivery partners over time, such as local authorities and retrofit companies. ECO Plus is a welcome start, it’s no silver bullet and we will continue to need a range of regulations, incentives, advice and green finance solutions to get on track for warmer homes.”
